Eco-Friendly Pets - How to ‘Greenify’ Your Best Friends

Well, what funny weather we have being having? One minute it is sunny, the next it is pouring from the heavens. Our poor dog Lester is getting a bit grumpy with us. You see, he loves his walks and normally we walk him everyday, unless the weather is pretty bad. Actually I love our walks - it is a great time to think, be with the family and out in the fresh air, but we have had some bad days recently which means we are all a bit down in the dumps.

Talking about Lester has got me thinking about how we 'Greenify' his life. Let’s face it - pets are a part of the family! There’s a good chance if you have a dog, cat, or even a small animal like a hamster or guinea pig, you want the absolute best for it in everything you provide. Not only does that mean choosing the right food, toys, and treats for them to ensure their health, but it also means providing eco-friendly, ‘green’ options for them.

When it comes to natural, green products for pets, the sky’s the limit. The industry has become exceedingly popular recently, because people are understanding the benefit of natural foods and treats more than ever before.

Find the Right Food

All animals love to eat - if you’re a pet owner, you likely already know that much! But, it can be easy to choose cheaper, lesser-quality food products all the time. Not only are these products not usually good for our animals, but they can be made from byproducts and preservatives that are harmful for the environment. Making the investment in a higher quality food likely means it will last longer, your dog will feel better, and you’ll be doing a large part for your pet’s journey to a greener earth.

Pick up Waste

Picking up your dog’s waste isn’t just a common courtesy, it’s actually beneficial to the environment. When you do scoop up your dog’s waste, use biodegradable bags, instead of standard plastic bags. The same goes for cat litter - choose a brand without chemicals, or create your own.

Use Non-Toxic Products

When it comes to grooming your pet, and using hygiene products, always search for solutions that are chemical-free. The words ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ are usually safe bets. Your pets will appreciate the fact that you aren’t using harmful chemicals on their skin, and you’ll also be reducing your footprint.
