Okay, so I’m not really sick, but as the evenings have been so cold, I love my hot drinks. And being a Friday, I usually sit down with a glass of wine to end off the week. So I thought I should start making my hot toddys again. It is something my family in Ireland often made up in winter, especially if one of us had a cold!!!
It is very simple to make and you can adjust the quantities to your taste
Ingredients
50ml whiskey
3 cloves
2tsp honey
1-2 tsp lemon juice
50ml water, just boiled
1 slice of lemon
Instructions
Place a teaspoon in a glass/mug and then add boiling water. This will warm up the glass/mug. Once warm remove the water.
Place the whisky into the glass/mug (of course, feel free to add more if you like it strong).
Add the honey and the cloves.
Pour the hot water into the mug/glass and over the spoon you used for the honey to get off the last bits of honey.
Add the lemon juice and stir well.
Add the lemon slice and serve.
Once you’ve had a hot toddy or two, you’ll soon discover how easy they are to make. Soon, you will be able to play around with the ingredients and make different types of hot “toddys”s. Some flavours I like are:
Swapping the cloves for cinnamon.
Swapping the whiskey for brandy.
Replacing the whiskey and lemon for rum and orange.
Replacing the cloves with a slice of ginger for a bit of spice.
I have heard of people mixing half cider and whiskey. Haven’t tried it myself, so I can’t tell you what it is like.
Hope you enjoy this. Believe it or not, I do find it good if you have the sniffles. I think it just helps you have a good sleep, but I’m sure it has the opposite affect if you have too much.
Sit back and relax. Sláinte (good health in Irish).
Have an earthly passsionate weekend,
